Welcome to Spencer Elementary School

Spencer Elementary School is a Pre-Kindergarten to 4th grade school that boasts a population of approximately 480 scholars. The dedicated staff members of Spencer Elementary are committed to providing our student body the highest quality educational experience possible. At Spencer Elementary, students learn to become architects of their futures and they are guided by a network of parents, school business partners, teachers, administrators and other valuable staff members. Our partnership provides a supportive and safe learning environment for all students.

We are a community of educators who believe the best interest of students comes first. Staff and parents work together to benefit our students in academic achievement. Teachers refine their lessons to enhance their instruction in order to raise the academic achievement. Teachers incorporate a balance of whole class, small group and individual instruction to differentiate and best meet the academic needs of all children. To meet this goal, we prepare our students to become innovative learners and resourceful problem solvers equipped with the skills needed to succeed in a competitive global society. As a community of children, parents, and educators, we seek to provide our students with an educational environment that is enriched, safe, stable and productive. Our goal is to maintain an instructional setting that stimulates curiosity and sensitize children to the world in which they live. All members of our educational community share a role in providing our students with programs and surroundings that will encourage as well as enrich their love of learning.

Spencer Elementary is committed to providing a quality education that is aligned with the Common Core Standards and district initiatives in order to ensure that our students are prepared for college and or careers by the end of high school. We offer a print base, language and literature based curriculum heavily utilizing today's technology such as SMART Boards, laptops, iPads just to mention a few. It is our intent that students understand that "learning" is a lifelong process that is NOT limited to the classroom.

We offer a school-wide (K-4), Walk-To-Intervention program in both Reading and Math. This is a 30 minute program designed to break the children into small skill groups according to academic needs. Within these small groups, the teacher can further identify academic needs of the slow learner as well as challenge the advance. This provides additional differentiation within the regular instructional day.

We are excited to begin our third year of READ 180. This is a computer-based literacy program offered to many of our 3rd and 4th grade children. READ 180 is one of the most successful reading programs in the country. It is interactive, engaging, challenging and customized to meet the individual needs of the student. The goal of this program is College & Career Readiness for ALL children.

We are also entering Year two of Number Talks. All grades participate in this program. This is a short program designed to help children build mental math and computation strategies. Each child is encouraged to solve and share their individual method for solving math equations in a routine non-threatening way.

In addition, Spencer Elementary School utilizes "6+1 Traits of Writing." This is a program designed to build a foundation for (K-4) Writing. The teaching staff has received training and implements the 7 traits of writing within their classroom. The intent of the program is to develop cohesive vocabulary and writing skills among grade levels.

With the continued support of our highly qualified and dedicated staff, a scholar-centered school atmosphere, a challenging curriculum, supportive parents and the assistance of an engagement of our community partners our children will continue to experience educational success. Thank you for entrusting us with your child.

SchoolBlocks offers a unique and powerful personalized search system. A member of the public, searching for "homework" might see an announcement from the school as the first result. However, if the user is logged in, they would see their teacher’s latest homework assignment as the top result.
